What is Hybrid Jiu-Jitsu? First off, let me clarify some ideas and myths about Jiu-Jitsu. The main and only objective behind Jiu-Jitsu is self-protection (combat). Jiu-Jitsu was developed for warfare by soldiers (Samurai) who, in the event of the losing of their weapons, could defend themselves using only their hands. The techniques should be simple and effective, meaning it should save your life.
People want to complicate the art of Jiu-Jitsu to make it look pretty and flashy. When this happens it is not Jiu-Jitsu, it's simply a sport like judo, boxing, football, or even basketball. Jiu-Jitsu was not meant for sport. Sport Jiu-Jitsu came about as a way to practice techniques in a safe environment without the threat of serious injuries and fatalities but over time gyms and academies egos got in the way and movements/techniques were developed for the soft padded surface. Hence sport. So, is this the "martial art" the creators of Jiu-Jitsu foreseen their art's path to be taken? I DO NOT THINK SO.
Alright; enough of that, back to reality and the original question.
What is Hybrid Jiu-Jitsu or what kind of Jiu-Jitsu is practiced at Hybrid Jiu-Jitsu? Well, at Hybrid Jiu-Jitsu we practice Combat Jiu-Jitsu as a way of life. It is not all about practicing techniques. We also practice a healthy lifestyle to survive life in a calm and collected manner. Our Jiu-Jitsu is a blend of Japanese rooted Jiu-Jitsu with an old school American flare (Shin Shin Jiu-Jitsu), Muay Thai, American Modern Karate (Zen Ki Do), Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and a simple basic diet that will help you to train well into your older years.
However, our BJJ is more focused on self-protection, unlike than the popular sport oriented BJJ. Yes, we can and have competed at grappling tournaments and have done very well but we use the "sportive" side to help us enhance our Combative mindset- to never give up.
We cover all aspects of self-protection from the verbal start, to the five ranges of physical space and to ending the situation systematically and appropriately. The focus of our training is to give you the tools to survive an attack against you or to help you protect your loved ones from a person who intends to inflict harm. So what kind of Jiu-Jitsu do we teach at Hybrid Jiu-Jitsu? Easy, we teach the kind of Jiu-Jitsu that will save your life or the life of a loved one.

Time for a new Beginning
For the past year, I have been training for obstacle races, improving my Jjiu-Jitsu and life in general. I have been cleaning up my eating habits and just trying to get the most out of what I eat. As a result my strength has increased, I'm more muscular, I feel better as a whole and my joints don't hurt as bad. What am I doing you ask? All bodyweight training. I have been doing my push-ups, burpees, sit-ups, squats, pull-ups and much more and all under 1 Hour of intense training. In the above links you will find a ton of bodyweight training programs that will help you to achieve your goals of becoming the best YOU. Check them out and see what fits your needs.

It's summer time and you know what that means? Swimsuit season is here. Why not get in the best shape of your life. This month (June) my dojo has issued a challenge of doing 100 tricep dips (any style of your choosing) everyday for 30 days, in addition to your regular training sessions. I'm also doing 100 burpees at least 5 days a week also and let me tell you the dips and burpees are kicking my butt. However, I feel great, stronger, leaner, and overall I haven't been sick in a long time. So give them a try: 100 tricep dips of your choice. Complete them and feel great.
Also check out: http://www.prisonbodyfitness.com/. It's a great site to get in shape quick with a no BS attitude. Send Ro and Adam my best also.

Training for Life, Challenges and Myself
I run in obstacle races (mud runs), 5ks and love it. My time has always been good and I turn heads as I run by the crowd and other runners. What separates me from the rest of the runners? I don't run. That's right I don't train to run at all. How do I run so fast? I lift heavy and perform my calisthenics with speed and form. I don't give up and obtain my goal for that training session no matter what. Check out the upper tabs for a complete unique way of training.
